Demetrio Cecchitelli (b. 1997, located in Rimini/Italy) is a musician, multi-instrumentalist, improviser, composer and research artist. In his sound performances gestures and textures melt composing layers and timbrical juxtaposition. He uses lots of techniques from the concrete music's experience and both electroacoustic, where the usage of different sound sources, mixed to live electronics and instrumental parts argue the compositional and performative act.
"Drone Works" is his first album release for DWI, preceeding his contribution to our "Drone Works Vol. 4" compilation (Dec. 2020).
About the album:
"Coming from a huge period of restlessness, this work wants to share a research in the field of drone-music, that I carry forward since the very beginning of my musical activity. I remind that I was a young 16-year-old guy, wondering to record and compose my own material to develop a personal language. Firstly was not the idea of making ambient the impact and primordial impulse that inspired my creative days, but a will to discover, with scientific or empiric methods, the variety of sounds that electronic and electroacoustic music have.
I recorded "Drone Works" in a room of an apartment inside a residence in Rimini, it was the first lockdown. All the sound sources I used came from stretched guitars, reverberations and Michael Norris plugins, that are really interesting for having particular characteristics in sound modelling and the correlated transformations. At that time, that's quite one year ago, the recordings were not meant as a possible release on a record label, but instead as a mere catharsis, and an archive of sounds for a sound installation or a live performance. What I wanted to express was a condition of permanency in a specific state, reminiscences of past memories relived before and afterwards the composition of the tracks. I have to say that my emotions are locked up within this album. But the gap in which resides the compliance between sound and subjectivity is nothing but "unknown"." (Demetrio Cecchitelli)
